Patricia Helliwell Volunteer Tutor Award

The official award ceremony will be held on International Literacy Day, Monday, September 8, 2008, in Halifax.

 

The Department of Labour and Workforce Development volunteer tutor award provides you with the opportunity to nominate a person who has gone above and beyond the call of duty as a volunteer tutor and who is deserving of recognition for his/her dedication to community-based literacy.

Awarded for the first time in 2007, this recognition of excellence will be dedicated to the memory of Patricia Helliwell. As a volunteer tutor, and Coordinator of the Hants Literacy Network for fourteen years, Patricia's indefatigable spirit, compassion and devotion to adult learners provided an enduring role model for all to emulate.

Criteria for this award are as follows:

  • be currently working as a volunteer tutor
  • have been involved in community-based volunteer tutoring for at least 3 years
  • continuously demonstrated caring, compassion, commitment, and sensitivity to the needs of adult learners.
